Software Toolkit code for opening and reading the fitacf files. The standard way to do this routinely is with Radar It is clear that you need access to the 'raw' line-of-sight velocity, Worked with Kjellmar when he was a postdoc in the U.S. I was glad to hear of your interest in SuperDARN data from Evan. I hope the upcoming workshop will be nice, I know Kjellmar is looking forward to it, I met him in Oslo while he was getting his visa. But thank you again, now I know that it is feasible. I hope it's ok if I come back to you on this when I figure out what data I want. My thesis assignment is a bit fuzzy right now, I'm waiting for my advisor for this. Tuesday 14 of December, 2021 12:41:19 AM ESTĪnd thank you very much for this nice answer. If you're not the correct person to ask this, could you maybe forward it to someone that might know this? I found your email address at the VT website. I'm using Matlab, and I wonder if this raw data is available in ASCII format aswell? Or do you now if there is similar scripts in Matlab for extracting the binary data? I understand that the standard SuperDARN data format is in binary format and IDL is used to analyze this data. I'm a grad student at the University of Oslo starting my thesis. Let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck with your thesis! If that's the case we could help you with an IDL install, dmap dump data from a specific file into a text file, or maybe even get you a remote account to access a computer here to work with the data.

If you were looking to use the actual backscatter measurements from a radar (such as line-of-sight velocity, power, or spectral width), I'm unaware of any Matlab routines to process the data. The output ASCII files are very well commented so you should be able to read them into a Matlab script. Which SuperDARN data products were you looking to use? There is a new tool on our website which allows users to generate ASCII files of SuperDARN convection map potential data, as well as download some basic IDL routines to plot them (routines require IDL version 7.0 installation): How much data are we talking about, for one year of data from one radar? Is there a IDL routine I could use to output the data to a ASCII by my self? I'm looking for the raw data from one radar for about a year (we think a year will do), and that I need los, power and spectral width. It looks like that I'm going to do a statistical test for Reversed flow events, a narrow flow channel in the ionosphere that Kjellmar Oksavik already used SuperDARN for. Sorry for not specifying the data product. View Comments (1) Attachments (0) View Item Status
